Tesco has given its backing to Everton Football Club’s plans to build a new 50,000-seat stadium outside Liverpool.
The government announced on Wednesday a planning inquiry into the £400m scheme which includes hotels, shops and restaurants.
Tesco said the case for the regeneration scheme in times of growing economic uncertainty had never been so clear and it was viable only because it was a single comprehensive development combining the stadium, retail and leisure.
