Dave Whelan, owner of Wigan Athletic, has given the club a £15m lifeline. The football clubs had intended to move in with Bolton Wanderers when their new stadium at Horwich was completed. The move would have meant selling Central Park stadium, for £8.75m to Tesco.
Whelan is buying Central Park for £4m and he will spend a further £11m developing the stadium into a 20,000 all-seat home for Wigan and Wigan Athletic.
