Wilson Bowden Developments has sold almost half of a development site in Chesterfield to supermarket giant Tesco for an Extra store.
Tesco has bought 9.5 acres of the 22-acre former Dema Glass factory site in the Derbyshire town for an undisclosed sum.
Consent for a mixed-use development on the site was granted in July last year.
Wilson Bowden development director Neil Hartley said: “Tesco has had a keen interest in developing a new store on this site for quite some time and has been working closely with us on the preparation of the development proposals that we submitted to the council last year as part of the planning application.“
Wilson Bowden Developments, which is being sold off by its parent company Barratt, bought the former Dema Glass factory site in 2005 and has since completed a demolition and de-contamination programme in preparation for its regeneration.
As well as the Tesco Extra, the site will provide a home for Chesterfield football club‘s new stadium.
Tesco expects to open its store before the end of this year. The new stadium is scheduled for completion prior to the 2010-11 season.
Fisher Hargreaves & Proctor advised Wilson Bowden; Mark Liell & Son acted for Tesco.
