Tesco to boost Metro numbers

Tesco has announced plans to more than treble its Metro stores at a cost of up to £150m.

It will convert 100 of its high street supermarkets to the format at a cost of about £50m and it wants to buy 10 new sites in city centres. It plans to sell a Metro in Aberdeen and another in Preston to Gap.

Tesco will also boost its petrol forecourt Express stores from 27 to 150 by 2003.
