Tesco to submit £8m Hindley superstore plans

Tesco is to develop an £8m store in the former mining town of Hindley in greater Manchester.

Tesco is to extend the 30,000 sq ft (2,787 sq m) Co-op store in Hindley which it is buying from United North West Co-Op Society. The retail giant will submit a planning application to Wigan council within the next two weeks for a 40,000 sq ft (3,716 sq m) superstore.

Tesco spokesman Shaun Edgeley said: “We have been looking to develop in this area for a long time. Hindley is an obvious location where we do not have a store. We look forward to finalising the acquisition and welcoming all the existing customers and staff to the new Tesco.”
