Tesco try to score in Bath

Tesco have agreed to pay Bath Rugby Club £18m for its 11-acre Lambridge training ground, to the east of central Bath — subject to planning consent for a 65,000-sq ft store and 250 parking spaces on the site.

The stores group will relocate the rugby club’s existing training facilities to a site in Bathampton.

Prudential have also lodged an application for a food store in the London Road, nearer the town centre. But Tesco believe that the park and ride facility which they will provide to link into the heart of the city will give their scheme superiority.

Ned Cussen of J P Sturge & Sons, who are acting for the rugby club, said: “The agreement with Tesco is structured to ensure the minimum disruption to the club’s training and playing facilities while maximising the value of the Lambridge site.” Moult Benn advised Tesco.
