Tesco unveils Bexleyheath resi and retail proposals

Bexleyheath Tesco 200

Tesco is proposing a multi-million-pound redevelopment in Bexleyheath, south London, including a store and 150 homes.

The retailer is preparing to submit two separate planning applications to Bexley council.

Tesco intends to build a 80,000 sq ft store, two smaller stores for other retailers, underground parking for 500 cars, and a pedestrian plaza on the site of the council’s existing offices in Broadway.

In addition, it is drawing up plans for 50 houses and 100 flats to the rear of the existing Woolwich headquarters. The council will refurbish the former HQ for Broadway staff to move to.

Plans will be submitted in November, with a decision expected in early 2012. If it is given the green light, the council will start moving to the Woolwich building in October 2013, and the Tesco development could be completed in 2014.
