Tesco withdraws Ledbury plan

Tesco has withdrawn its application for a store on an industrial site on the edge of Ledbury, Herefordshire.

Herefordshire council had been scheduled to decide the fate of the 33,000 sq ft outlet today but the retailer withdrew its application to digest sharp criticism from local planners. Ledbury’s anti-superstore campaigners discovered that as soon as Tesco withdrew, Sainsbury’s submitted its own bid to build a huge outlet on the opposite side of the road. Locals fear both the Sainsbury’s and Tesco store could still get the go-ahead.
