Test Valley Borough Council have agreed to quash a planning consent they had earlier granted for a clay pigeon-shooting range in the area. The about-turn came at the High Court where local residents were challenging the consent on the basis that the council had failed to carry out proper noise tests.
Temporary approval for the clay pigeon-shooting range, at a farm near Andover, was granted in December 1993 and was made permanent in October 1999. However, when the residents challenge reached court Jackson J was told that the council had formally consented to the quashing of the permission. The council will now reconsider the planning application with the benefit of a full noise report, which will be made available to the protestors.
