Tewkesbury Borough Council, has agreed to let Bryant Homes Mercia build 51 homes on Gastons Field, in Gloucestershire. It was the site of a decisive Lancastrian defeat in the Wars of the Roses in 1471.
Campaigners have vowed to lobby John Prescott, environment secretary, to throw out the plans.
