Texan submits plans for Brixton scheme

Texan Taylor McWilliams’ firm AG Hondo has submitted plans to Lambeth Council to redevelop 20-24 Pope’s Road in Brixton, SW9.

The scheme, designed by Adjaye Associates, is aiming to replace the existing property, which currently houses a Sports Direct and a Flannels, with a building rising up to 19 storeys.

This would create a 25,000 sq ft extension to Brixton Village with a rooftop restaurant and 200,000 sq ft of office space.

The office space will include 20,000 sq ft of affordable workspace for start-ups and local businesses that will be managed by community-led workspace provider Impact Brixton.

There will also be a large flexible central space that will be able to operate as either a food hall or an event space, as well as being available to be used by local community groups for free.

The elongated site is located 100m from Brixton rail station and is bound by two railway viaducts.

McWilliams established property firm Hondo Enterprises in 2013, purchasing Brixton Village and Market Row at Brixton Market in 2018. The Grade II listed arcades are home to around 140 retailers and restaurants.

Taylor McWilliams, managing partner of Hondo Enterprises, said: “These proposals will help create additional market space, while also offering a commercial hub in the heart of Brixton, supporting traders, creating jobs for local people and attracting thousands more visitors each year.”
