TfL begged to help tenants as station footfall declines

Shops in Tube and train stations are suffering as the Omicron Covid variant reduces footfall to a trickle.

Business owners are calling for landlords, including the publicly-owned Transport for London, to adopt flexible leases and rent arrangements to prevent further permanent closures. One said: “We can’t even cover wages, never mind the rent.”

London Underground, a subsidiary of TfL, is responsible for more than 700 retail units within train stations.
