The owner of a photographic library in central London is suing Thames Water Utilities for damages of more than £1m following flood damage.
In a claim issued at Londons High Court, Sporting Pictures (UK) says that the flood occurred on 18 February 2001 when a main below Theobalds Road burst, allowing water to rush into its library in Lambs Conduit Passage.
Sporting Pictures alleges that the flooding damaged photographs and other items stored at the library. It also says that loss adjusters for Thames admitted liability for the flooding days after the incident.
The cost of restoring the lost images is put at more than £875,000, and the value of destroyed office equipment, film, chemicals, mounts, cameras and lenses, together with the increased cost of working, are said to bring the total damages to £1,065,737.
