A report by the Transport Regeneration consultancy says Railtracks £800m Thameslink 2000 project would boost business and tourism across the south-east and east of England.
The proposed expansion of the Bedford to Brighton network and a new line to Kings Lynn Norfolk, would also help regenerate the region by allowing easier access to training, leisure, jobs and healthcare, said the report which Railtrack commissioned.
The project is expected to open in 2006.
