The Collective gains consent for Southwark development

The London Borough of Southwark has given The Collective the green light for a 175,000 sq ft development that will include “short-stay accommodation”.

The scheme, on Borough High Street, SE1, has been designed by Allies and Morrison and will be centred around a 3,200 sq ft landscaped public plaza. It will focus on “creatives, entrepreneurs and business travellers”.

Around 14,000 sq ft of community and employment incubator space will be across ground, lower ground and basement levels. The space will include:

  • 4,198 sq ft free-to-use community and flexible events space for local residents
  • 3,336 sq ft of small and medium enterprise business units for local start-ups and businesses
  • 1,453 sq ft of artist studios and maker space
  • 4,305 sq ft of co-working and shared workspace.

The development also includes 20 new homes, of which 50% will be affordable.

Construction is expected to commence in summer 2020, with completion due in summer 2022.
