The Collective hires former Landsec director

Co-living developer The Collective has hired Russell Beresford as head of development.

Beresford was most recently development director at Landsec and previously worked at Blackstone, Hammerson and Lendlease.

He will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of The Collective’s UK and Ireland pipeline, including key sites in Harrow, Stratford, Wandsworth and Southwark.

Beresford previously worked on Portland House and Red Lion Court, and also focused on mixed-use estates, student accommodation, residential, retail and office in his former roles.

The hire comes as The Collective seeks to beef up its planning, development and investment teams to support global expansion.

It has also promoted Dom Butler to UK investment director and hired Harry Manley as associate planning director.

The Collective has a portfolio of 8,500 bedrooms at various stages of development with a GDV of £2.8bn. It is expanding in Germany, Ireland and the US and has a target to reach more than 100,000 units by 2025,

Last month the developer announced the launch of the world’s largest co-living fund, seeking to raise £650m in a tie-up with DTZ Investors.

It will deploy finance across six to 10 projects in Greater London over the next 10 years.

The Collective has broadened its offering to include short-stay hotels and co-working space, on top of its signature co-living communities.

Reza Merchant, founder and chief executive at The Collective, said: “2019 has been a milestone year for The Collective. We are very much focused on expanding our teams across our regions to ensure that we have the right skills and expertise in place to drive and sustain growth, and to deliver world class spaces and experiences for our members and wider communities.”
