The euro crucial to UK factories, warns Nestle chief

Peter Blackburn, chief executive of Nestle, UK writes in the Financial Times that the company’s continued investment in the UK depends on the ability to manufacture products more competitively in the UK than in other European countries.

He argues that Britain cannot afford to remain outside the euro. He warns of the risk of more factory closures and the shift of investment to factories in continental Europe.

In a separate article in The Daily Telegraph, the company denies its York factory is under threat. The Guardian says, in large part, the sense of impending doom has been whipped up by those with a political agenda.
