The rich are richer than they have been letting on.
An overhaul of how the Office for National Statistics measures the incomes of the wealthy has shown that the richest 10% earned an average of almost £10,000 more than previous estimates.
The top 10% in the UK earned £97,600 on average in the 2017-18 financial year, as the gap between rich and poor also widened by 2.4% since 2008.
