The Works seeks new store locations

Value retailer The Works has appointed agency GCW to find store locations at prime high streets and shopping centres across the south-east of England.

The chain, which trades from more than 530 stores nationwide, is considering new outlets and relocations as part of “ongoing management of its UK-wide store portfolio”.

It is looking for ground-floor sales spaces measuring 1,500-2,000 sq ft, with 500 sq ft ancillary space.

Jeremy Smith, property director at The Works, said: “We have had great success opening stores in this part of the country and I am keen to further optimise our store locations in this key region as part of the ongoing management of our whole portfolio.”

Gareth Storer, of GCW, said: “The Works is a popular brand with shoppers and we are already engaged in talks with a number of landlords.”

The retailer previously set out its stall for “more aggressive” lease renegotiations in January.

At the time it had not planned any new store openings for the rest of its financial year, but set out aims to open 20 net new stores in 2021.

The Works sells a wide range of books, art and craft materials, gifts, toys and games, and stationery.
