Developer Therme Group has expanded its proposals for its £250m Trafford City wellbeing resort to include an all-season urban beach and “living” waterslides.
The waterslides will have a 3D-printed superstructure housing thousands of plants. The revised plans also include a green “vertical forest” multi-storey car park, an urban farm, botanical gardens and innovative “welltech” experiences such as a snow room, multi-sensory showers, oxygen rooms and a visitor and education centre.
These will sit alongside plans for a “next-generation” waterpark, thermal bathing and wellbeing spa.
The group, which has partnered with Peel L&P on the scheme, is aiming to submit a revised planning application in the summer. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2023, with a build time of around two years.
Stelian Iacob, senior vice president of Therme Group and chief executive of Therme Group UK, said: “The Covid period gave us the opportunity to update the design of Therme Manchester to create an even more sustainable, engaging and accessible experience with profound health and wellbeing benefits for all.”
James Whittaker, executive director of development at Peel L&P, said Therme Manchester will “lead the way in health and wellbeing”.
