Funding partner sought for Ashford Studios development

Quinn Estates and the Creative District Improvement are seeking an additional funding partner for the development of Ashford International Studios.

The pair have appointed Allsop to help them identify a new partner to provide circa £45m in funding for the project, which is part of the wider £250m Newton Works regeneration project.

Four 20,000 sq ft sound stages with associated offices will make up the 200,000 sq ft studio complex, alongside 90,000 sq ft of commercial accommodation within Grade II listed former locomotive sheds.

A 120-bedroom hotel, 62 serviced apartments, multi-storey car park and 302 residential units make up the rest of the wider scheme, close to Ashford International station.

Terms have already been agreed with TCDI’s subsidiary company, Time + Space Studios, to lease the film studio complex on a long-term basis.

The firm also operates Twickenham Studios and will run the new studio space at the Littlewoods Building in Liverpool.

James Abrahams, partner at Allsop, said: “The opportunity at Ashford studios presents a rare asset class investment, a world-class TV studios. Media streaming is arguably one of the fasting-growing channels right now and Ashford International Studios will have the capabilities to deliver high-quality films and TV production to ease the current supply and demand.”
