Brookgate has been refused planning permission for the next phase of its 1.6m sq ft CB1 development in Cambridge for a third time.
The developer said that it would push ahead with its appeal after Cambridge city council turned down plans this week for the 133,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme at 50-60 Station Road.
The project had been recommended for approval and endorsed by the council’s design and conservation panel.
The city council invited Brookgate to reapply for permission after a refusal in March this year.
It said that it still remained unconvinced of the public benefit from the demolition of Wilton Terrace on the site.
The vote went against Brookgate by 5:3 councillors.
Brookgate said that it had never stepped away from the appeal and would now prepare for the hearing on 16 October. The council will not put up evidence for the hearing.
A spokesman for Brookgate said: “We were asked by the council to resubmit the proposals for consideration and we are therefore very surprised and disappointed with the result.”
