A lack of a summer heatwave, a royal wedding or a men’s football World Cup has been blamed by J Sainsbury for its third consecutive quarterly slide in sales.
As the supermarket chain faces up to life on its own after the collapse of its proposed merger with Asda, it reported a 1.6 per cent decline in like-for-like sales excluding fuel for the 16 weeks to June 29.
