Thomas buys Swansea factory complex

South Wales property tycoon Roy Thomas has bought Swansea’s 845,000 sq ft Visteon factory complex for around £6m.

The 30-acre complex, which Visteon has vacated after consolidating into the nearby Elba Works, lies on Fabian Way, the main route into Swansea city centre.

Chris Sutton, King Sturge joint managing partner, who acted for Visteon Corporation, said:  “We were impressed with the level of bids and were happy with Mr Thomas’s track record in Swansea.”

King Sturge and DTZ will market the complex, which Thomas plans to refurbish and subdivide. Thomas also plans a major office facelift.

Originally built in 1960 for fridge manufacturer, Prestcold, the plant was acquired by Ford in the mid 1960s before being transferred to Visteon Corporation, a full service provider to automotive manufacturers.

It comprises a main manufacturing unit of around 510,000 sq ft, with a 265,000 sq ft extension known as the Zetec unit, constructed in 1989.

Royal Bank of Scotland Corporate financed the acquisition, and Swansea-based solicitor Morgan LaRoche acted for Thomas.  DTZ advised Thomas.
