Thorpe Park set for expansion

A plan by Scarborough Developments to extend Thorpe Park business park, Yorkshire, by 1.5m sq ft has been recommended for approval.

The new scheme would add around 45 buildings at the site, including 1.1m sq ft of office space and 400,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space.

A Leeds City Region report, to be considered next week by councillors, recommends that the plans be approved in principle and referred to Eric Pickles.

Some 68 acres of land at Thorpe Park are earmarked for employment use as a business park, with around 600,000 sq ft of offices built so far on around half this land.

A new highway – the MLLR north-south route linking Thorpe Park with the East Leeds extension – was also recommended for approval, when around 1m sq ft of office development is occupied.

Scarborough has been in pre-application discussions with the council since November 2011.
