The Post Office plans to close two branches in Northern Ireland and one in Wales, and is also looking to transfer 39 to private companies through franchise agreements.
More than 400 jobs could be lost as a result, and the Post Office has also warned that other measures will be needed. Some branches were breaking even, it said, but limited growth options and the high cost of property meant some would not be able to make money.
The Communication Workers Union said up to 50 more offices could be closed over the next two years, threatening a further 600 jobs.
