Thumbs up for Renaker’s 52-storey Manchester towers

Manchester City Council has given the Renaker the go ahead to build two 52-storey residential towers on Crown Street.

The two towers will comprise 855 homes and a three-level basement parking area for 389 cars. A two-storey podium with lounge space, a gym, a sauna and two retail units will link the two blocks.

Plans also include a three-storey primary school, which will sit between the two towers and phase one of Crown Street (a further two towers providing a total 664 homes).

Also approved at yesterday’s planning committee was Waterside Places’ Islington Wharf scheme.

The developer lodged plans in April for 106 homes in a stepped building, ranging from 11 to 16 storeys, on the former site of the Manchester School of Building between Great Ancoats Street and Old Mill Street.

The committee also green lit plans for a pub-to-residential conversion scheme, which will turn the former Tatton Arms in Northenden into 28 flats.
