Nigel Wray’s Chorion is opening a Tiger Tiger in Halifax and Clerical Medical’s redevelopment of the old Leeds Permanent headquarters in the city centre. Mark Simmons reports.
The leisure operator has agreed a 25-year lease for its bar-cum-nightclub, at an undisclosed rent, for a 1,580 sq m (17,000 sq ft) unit. The scheme, now branded The Light, is due to open in 2001.
Chorion aims to have around 16 units by then, according to managing director Nick Tamblyn. Units in major conurbations will be at least 1,858 sq m (20,000 sq ft), while smaller units are planned in secondary locations, although these are unlikely to carry the Tiger Tiger branding.
The first Tiger Tiger opened in Londons Haymarket last year. Sites have since been agreed at Manchester (Printworks), Birmingham (Fiveways), Croydon (Grants) and another in Londons West End (Pavilion, Piccadilly Circus).
Chorion, which operates the Trocadero centre in London, is tipped by city analysts as a growth prospect. Wray, who this week stood down as chairman and director of Nottingham Forest plc and football club, purchased 2m Chorion shares at 21 pence each last month.
