TJ Hughes is in talks over eight new stores.
The expansion will see it open in Scotland for the first time and take it down to London from its north-west heartland.
The 30-strong discount department store chain has also agreed to open stores in Coventry and Maidstone in the next year. The company believes the format would suit up to 200 towns and cities across the UK.
