US-Embassy-THUMBRepurposing the US Embassy

Plans for the conversion of the US Embassy on Grosvenor Square, W1, (pictured) into a £1bn luxury hotel go on show on 11 April.

The Chipperfield-designed plans for the Qatari Diar-owned property include a 137-bedroom, five-star hotel, five restaurants, a spa and a ballroom with capacity for 1,000.

DP9 is advising on planning.


Longfield to receive revamp

Muse Developments and Hollins Murray Group have agreed to redevelop Longfield shopping centre in Prestwich, Greater Manchester.

Plans will be developed by Muse in consultation with HMG.

The 26,500 sq ft centre comprises shops, a car park and events venue the Longfield Suite.


St-James'-Market-SW1Crown to move to St James’s

The Crown Estate is moving its HQ to its £400m St James’s Market scheme, W1, in 2017.

The estate will leave its 30,000 sq ft Regent Street offices, which will be refurbished and relet, for the 210,000 sq ft scheme.

It will join Carlyle Group, which is moving from its Mayfair HQ to 60,000 sq ft over three floors at St James’s Market.


KLM’s Morgan to retire

Nick Morgan, a founding partner of retail property advisers Kitchen La Frenais Morgan, is to retire at the end of April after 26 years.

He will continue as a consultant.

During his tenure KLM has worked with clients including Land Securities, St Modwen and AXA Investment Managers – Real Assets.

Last year it acted on £500m of investment deals.


22-Bishopsgate-200City defends Bishopsgate plan

Plans for AXA Investment Managers – Real Assets and Lipton Rogers Developments’ 62-storey tower at 22 Bishopsgate, EC2, the site originally intended for the Pinnacle scheme, have moved forward after the City Corporation used statutory powers to fend off possible rights to light claims.
