Bore steps down in Brum

Sir Albert Bore will step down as leader of Birmingham city council in December. The move came after the cabinet met three times in 24 hours to discuss the city’s leadership. The process to find a new leader will begin imminently.

Fried to run Kirsh Group

Former Investec chief executive Bradley Fried is to head the family office of South African billionaire Nathan Kirsh. Fried will be the new chief executive of Kirsh Group, whose $6.2bn (£4bn) business includes commercial and residential property on four continents. He will start in November and takes over from Ron Sandler. Sandler will remain a trustee and adviser to the family.

Praxis wins Whitebirk consent

Praxis has been granted planning permission for a 1m sq ft business park at Whitebirk in Lancashire. Its plans include distribution units and 35,000 sq ft of hotel, food and leisure space. Praxis hopes the Frontier Park scheme will transform the 85-acre site at junction 6 of the M65 into an “economic hub”.

LandSec pictures Ealing start

Land Securities has secured a compulsory purchase order that will allow it to build its £100m Filmworks cinema scheme in Ealing, W5. The development will include a 1,000-seat cinema, a public square, shops, restaurants and housing. Construction is expected to start in 2016 and the first screening at the cinema will be in 2018.

Octopus embraces affordable

Octopus Investments is to launch a business to deliver affordable housing schemes. The business is a joint venture with affordable housing developer QSH. The new company will trade as Octopus QSH and its first scheme will be the 106-home Martindale development in Doncaster, south Yorkshire.
