Tories aren’t green enough, say voters switching to Labour

A lack of action over climate change is putting voters off the Conservatives as the party considers rowing back on green policies.

The majority of Tory voters who plan to switch to Labour in the next election think Rishi Sunak has not done enough on climate change, according to polling of 3,000 adults by Opinium.

It found that, for voters who voted Tory in 2019 and planned to vote Labour next year, 57% felt the prime minister had “not gone far enough” on tackling climate change. Only 9% thought he had gone too far, 25% thought he had it about right and 10% did not know.

The findings appear to upend a view within parts of the party that environmental policies are unpopular with voters.
