Tories woo voters with speedy Dome sale promise

William Hague has pledged that within two weeks of winning the General Election the Conservatives would sell the Millennium Dome.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday Hague unveiled his 20-point timetable for the Tories first fortnight in Government. Among pledges to distance the UK from Europe and a streamlined package for Whitehall, Hague made selling the Dome a priority.

“On Tuesday [19 June] we would publish an offer for sale for the Dome – ending the cloak-and-dagger secrecy that Labour have used to hide the scale of this failure from the public. We would sell it to whoever offers the best value for money for the taxpayer,” he said. The Conservatives later admitted that they do not know who the most suitable bidders are.

Last week Grosvenor denied that it was in exclusive talks with English Partnerships for the Dome.

Another priority, Hague said, was foot-and-mouth disease. “Foot-and-mouth is still threatening our countryside – perhaps even more than the Government will tell us about before the election. We would act urgently by implementing our Strategy for Recovery including emergency interest-free loans for businesses whose cash-flow has collapsed as a result of the epidemic.”
