Torsion submits revised plans for Leeds PBSA

Torsion Group has submitted revised plans to redevelop Index House on Burley Road, Leeds, into a 189-bed purpose-built student accommodation.

The developer’s previous scheme was rejected in August 2022 as the proposed site would have overshadowed the terrace associated with the Five Ways Recovery Academy – a facility offering support for alcohol and drug addiction – located nearby.

The revised scheme proposed two towers of six and eight storeys providing a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and cluster rooms.

The proposed scheme includes amenity space on the ground floor, comprising of common space, study pods, a cinema room, a games room, and a gym, as well as 47 cycle parking spaces.

The 0.3-acre site currently comprises part of a former terrace of buildings, which include a fish and chip shop, an accountant’s office, and a takeaway at ground floor level. These outlets will shortly be vacated.
