‘Trailblazer’ devolution deals will leave swathes of the country behind, Conservative MPs have warned Michael Gove.
The group, which represents seats in the East Midlands, have written to the levelling up secretary to complain that the government was creating a “two-tiered system” in which their areas were being forced to “sit on the sidelines” and miss out on investment.
‘Trailblazer’ devolution deals have given more powers and funds to the West Midlands and Greater Manchester.
The letter from the group said: “The East Midlands risks being left behind again. Our constituents should not have to wait years for Westminster politicians to decide to ‘unleash the potential’ of devolution in our region. We need access to opportunities now — opportunities that Manchester and Birmingham secured years ago.”
