Toyota is spending £240m to expand production at its Deeside plant in North Wales.
The factory currently supplies engines to the company’s Burnaston assembly lines in the Midlands. It is believed the extra capacity will be used to support Valenciennes, north France.
The announcement will confirm Wales as a second production centre for the British motor car industry. Ford has extensively developed engine production at Bridgend.
