US private Equity firm TPG has hired Jon Winkelried as co-chief executive.
A former president and chief operating officer at Goldman Sachs, Winkelried joins the Texas-based private equity firm to work alongside Jim Coulter, co-founder and co-chief executive of the firm, which owns Cushman & Wakefield.
Winkelried retired from Goldman Sachs in 2009, aged just 49. He held a number of positions in the company, including head of the investment banking division, co-head of the fixed income, currency and commodities division, and the head of the leverage finance business.
Co-founder David Bonderman will remain as chairman of TPG.
“As we operate in this increasingly complex environment, it is important to have strong leadership,” said Bonderman. “The combination of Jim and Jon brings together complementary skill sets that will benefit our firm greatly. I look forward to working with them both to achieve future success at TPG.”
Winkelried will start in his new role in early November based in the company’s San Francisco office.
