The government’s Strategic Rail Authority has proposed a radical overhaul of the rail timetable to increase capacity on the network and ease delays.
The proposed changes could include banning slow trains from intercity lines, setting frequency levels on routes for each train operating company and adding further carriages to rush-hour trains.
