Silsoe College, a Faculty of Cranfield Institute of Technology, is not an establishment generally thought of in connection with land agency, but it has recently taken a new initiative in this direction. The college has launched a new sandwich degree programme leading to a BSc in agricultural technology and management, in which management studies are “uniquely combined” with agricultural science and engineering systems.
Silsoe is currently seeking sandwich placements for third year undergraduates looking to gain experience within land agency and land management organisations. “While we appreciate the depressed state of the agricultural sector at present,” the college comments, “we feel sure that employers will recognise the need to continue to train young people for future management careers in this industry. Of course the employer can also benefit from short term but committed and intelligent manpower at a time when conditions may not allow him to take on permanent staff.”
The college would be interested to hear from any readers who could offer a student placement of between three months and a year. Details from Vivien Lawson on Silsoe (0525) 60428.
