Trainer brand sets foot in former army hall

A Swedish trainer manufacturer has chosen a former British Army shooting range-turned-office building for its new London office.

Axel Arigato, which sells high-end sneakers from its flagship store in Soho, has picked the Drill Hall, a site near Farringdon station, EC1, as its new base.

The Scandinavian company has signed a lease for the 8,987 sq ft space, which is split across ground, basement and mezzanine floors. Rent was not disclosed, but the building was initially advertised as £72.50 per sq ft.

Built in 1888, the site was initially used for rifle practice for a British Army regiment. Following the Second World War, it was used by an army ambulance unit, before falling vacant and eventually being converted for office use. It is owned by H Company 3 Limited, a Jersey-registered entity, according to EG Radius.

Compton acted for the landlord, while Workplace Company acted for the tenant.
