Transport company plans Belfast city centre HQ

The Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company (NITHC) has submitted plans for a 150,157 sq ft (13,950 sq m) headquarters office building at Grosvenor Road in Belfast city centre.

The 3.8-acre (1.54ha) site is to next to Great Victoria Street station and Durham Street coach park, on the western side of Belfast city centre.

As the site is close to Belfast city centre’s key public transport facilities, the NITHC says that the planned offices would not need the parking facilities that are normally required by head offices.

A spokesman for NITHC said that it hopes to attract one of the four consortia shortlisted for the Invest Northern Ireland (INI) headquarters development to Grosvenor Road, either to jointly develop the site or to lease space for the INI project.

But the four consortia are believed to have already earmarked other sites for the INI HQ scheme. NITHC did not itself bid to be preferred developer on the INI scheme.

NITHC manages Translink, the operator of Northern Irelands’ three public transport companies: Citybus, Northern Ireland Railways and Ulsterbus.
