Travellers who bought a three-acre (1.21ha) field in Minety, Wiltshire, and did work on it without planning permission have been allowed to stay.
The judge, at the High Court, in Bristol, said removing them would cause “hardship and suffering.” The 56 Travellers bought the field for £80,000 a year ago.
Doreen Darby, who sits on North Wiltshire council’s planning committee, says in The Daily Telegraph: “The law is an ass and it is braying rather loudly.”
