Travelodge unpacks bags in Upminster

Travelodge has agreed a deal with developer Eastern Iron Works to open a new 82-bedroom hotel in Upminster on a 25-year lease.

The hotel, at 11 Station Road, will have retail shops on the ground floor.

The developer was granted permission to convert the existing five-storey building into a hotel in January by Havering Council.

Construction has already started and is scheduled for completion in early 2026.

Tony O’Brien, UK development director at Travelodge, said: “We currently operate 82 hotels across the city. Only one of these hotels, Romford Travelodge, is located in the London Borough of Havering, which has a population of more than 260,000.

“Works have now commenced to build our new Travelodge hotel in Upminster town centre, which will provide excellent quality and great value accommodation, attracting thousands of new business and leisure visitors each year, who will spend hundreds of thousands of pounds in local shops, restaurants, cafes and attractions”.

Daniel Harris, director of Eastern Iron Works Developments, said: “We are excited to build Travelodge’s new hotel in Upminster and help the company to continue to expand its portfolio of hotels in London. The new hotel will support the visitor economy in Upminster and bring economic benefits to the borough, something we are very proud of.”

Strettons acted for Travelodge.
