Options to develop land surrounding Erno Goldfinger’s Trellick Tower, W1, are being explored by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
The council said it has commissioned a study for architects and consultants to come up with redevelopment options.
Plans will focus on land at nearby Elkstone Road, which is being used as a coach park, and space below the Grade II property, which comprises a car park and the ground floor itself.
Councillor Timothy Coleridge, cabinet member for housing and property, said: “We need new homes, new facilities and new economic activity in this part of the borough.
“But while we plan those, it must make sense to see if in some way development can also help resolve some of the financial challenges of maintaining Trellick Tower for the next 40 years.”
