The City’s tallest proposed building at 1 Undershaft, EC3, could be British throughout.
Aroland Holdings’ 73-storey, 1,000 ft tower will be the second-tallest building in western Europe, after the Shard.
Architect Eric Parry said it could be built using UK-sourced material.
Approved this week, the project will involve demolishing the Aviva Tower and building a rectangular form, known as the Trellis.
The scheme will comprise 1.4m sq ft of offices, 21,000 sq ft of shops, and a free public viewing gallery at the top, with a restaurant on the floor below.
