Trimble launches £150m mixed-use scheme in Belfast

Northern Ireland’s first minister David Trimble has launched a £150m development on Belfast’s Waterfront. The scheme includes the largest privately funded speculative office scheme in the province for several years.

Dunloe Ewart plans to build 12,077 sq m (130,000 sq ft) speculatively at Lanyon Place, on the Waterfront, at a cost of £20m in anticipation of expanded economic growth in the city.

The developer also unveiled proposals for the remaining four sites at Lanyon Place. These include further 13,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft) offices, two retail and leisure schemes, and a 600-space multi-storey car park.

Dunloe Ewart still has to draw up detailed plans for the retail and leisure development, but the developer claims that discussions are underway with local leisure operators to buy the necessary licences.

Speaking at the launch yesterday, Trimble said: “Lanyon Place plays a very special role as a symbol of the regeneration of Belfast and it is entirely fitting that on such a large development further office space and other amenities should be provided. What is particularly gratifying is that a private sector company like Dunloe Ewart is willing to take a stake in the future of Northern Ireland by speculatively investing in such a large scale construction.”
