Three development partners have been shortlisted for one of the largest mixed-use development opportunities in the UK.
A consortium led by GenR8, another led by Urban Splash, and Places for People are the final three parties fighting to take on the 43-acre Icknield Port Loop regeneration site near Edgbaston Reservoir in Birmingham.
Site owners and joint venture partners Birmingham city council and the Canal & River Trust are due to make a decision about a preferred development partner in the autumn. St Modwen was understood to be one of the final contenders, but pulled out.
The brownfield site is part of the Birmingham Development Plan and is covered by the Greater Icknield masterplan. It has consent for around 1,150 new homes, plus shops, offices and leisure space. However, development density levels could increase, as masterplanning studies have shown that the site is capable of providing significantly more housing than specified.
Savills is advising the Canal & River Trust.
