Tritax Big Box REIT has partnered with the Prince’s Trust, committing £450,000 to the charity over the next five years to support 1,200 young people in education.
The REIT has been awarded silver patron status by the organisation. The partnership will support 11-16-year-olds in areas around Tritax Big Box’s properties where needs are greatest.
It forms part of Tritax Big Box’s wider commitment to invest £2m in education and skills-building initiatives, to help young people to develop their wellbeing, skills and employment aspirations through learning, mentoring and training.
It will also give them access to opportunities in the logistics and real estate sectors.
The five-year plan is managed by Tritax Management’s social impact foundation, which launched in May, as previously revealed by EG.
The strategy aims to support 250,000 people from primary school age to tertiary education and employment.
The Prince’s Trust will be the newest partnership for the REIT. It is also working with charity Schoolreaders to open up opportunities in education.
Alan Somerville, ESG director at Tritax Management, said: “At Tritax Big Box, we are focused on ways we can deliver meaningful social impact within the communities we operate in.
“A big part of this is to open up the logistics industry to raise awareness of opportunities and give young people from primary school age upwards the skills, mentoring and training they need to fulfil their potential.
“The Prince’s Trust has a proven track record in building the confidence of young people and helping them to gain qualifications. This, and their shared passion for supporting those who couldn’t otherwise access education programmes, makes them a perfect partner.”
Cat Crowther, head of education at the Prince’s Trust, said the partnership will support young people through education programmes “at a time when the need has never been greater”.
She added: “With their help we are determined to reach those needing additional support to develop the skills and confidence to realise their potential.”
