Trump loses bid to halt $10,000 a day fine

Donald Trump has so far racked up $80,000 in fines for failing to handover paperwork relating to alleged property fraud.

A New York court has rejected his attempt to halt a contempt order and $10,000 daily fines, which were levied against the former US president for failing to properly comply with an investigation into his company.

The judge, Arthur Engoran, also criticised an affidavit from Trump that outlined how the company has “searched fruitlessly” for the documents required by James.

“Mr Trump’s personal affidavit is completely devoid of any useful detail,” he wrote.

New York district attorney Letitia James is investigating allegations that the Trump Organisation committed fraud by manipulating the stated valuations of its properties in order to get more favourable terms for loans, insurance rates and taxes.
