Trump loses Supreme Court battle over tax returns

Donald Trump has lost his Supreme Court battle to block the release of his tax returns.

The order by America’s highest court finally clears the way for the Treasury Department to hand over six years of tax returns for Trump and some of his businesses to the Democrat-controlled House ways and means committee, which has been seeking the documents since 2019.

The real estate tycoon and former president announced last week that he would run for office again in 2024.

In a further blow for Trump yesterday, a New York judge scheduled a trial date of October 2023 for the former president and three of his adult children in the civil lawsuit over alleged property valuation fraud at the Trump Organization, brought by New York attorney general Letitia James.

James is seeking $250m in damages and to ban the Trumps from doing business in New York State.
